INSTITUTIONAL BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT SPECIALIST
Brown Advisory is in search of a full-time Institutional Business Development Specialist to support our institutional sales department. Qualified candidates must possess the following:
Department Overview:
Brown Advisory has a proprietary range of equity and fixed income strategies that are managed by an in-house team of portfolio managers and analysts. Separate accounts and funds are distributed across the U.S.
The Institutional Sales Team is a key part of the Brown Advisory sales effort, deepening key relationships with top institutional clients and consultants while pro-actively identifying and pursuing new business opportunities with new and existing clients.
Position Description:
- Build on existing client relationships within the U.S and Europe, contributing to and delivering against the strategy set by the Head of Institutional Sales.
- Deliver new business opportunities with Plan Sponsors, build the Brown Advisory brand through direct client calling, marketing and face to face meetings.
- Effectively work with internal partners (for example Institutional Client Service, Marketing, Compliance, Legal) to provide an exceptional service to our clients.
Key Duties:
- Present the Brown Advisory proposition in a coherent and persuasive manner to the target client base, increasing brand awareness, sales and profitability.
- Take a pro-active approach to senior level relationship building, with local and national institutions across the U.S.
- Manage a range of existing target clients including public pensions, corporations, foundations and endowments.
- Demonstrate exceptional knowledge of Brown Advisory investment strategies/products while maintaining knowledge of financial markets and competitor products and positioning.
- Provide client feedback to internal partners to improve product and service offerings.
- Deliver quality information and a consistent Firm view to clients in a professional and timely manner.
- Development of client presentation materials including RFP's, questionnaires, meeting agendas and presentation decks to appropriately reflect local market nuances.
- Forge strong, collaborative relationships with colleagues across the different distribution channels to exploit opportunities for cross selling.
- Partner with Institutional Client Service team to effectively service existing clients and to identify and pursue new business opportunities.
- Responsible for weekly and monthly reporting on sales activity and pipeline business within region, while maintaining and updating CRM database as appropriate.
- Recognize that in all dealings with clients that conduct reflects the standards and values that the Company requires i.e. integrity of the highest order, professionalism, open, honest and fair information and exceptional client service skills.
Key Competencies & Skills:
Technical:
- A demonstrable track record of a successful sales career within Asset Management, outstanding negotiation skills and the proven ability to contribute to the profitability of the organization are essential.
- Demonstrate the ability to establish strong client relationships at all levels to effectively position the Brown Advisory brand to increase profitability within the region.
- Good grasp of the investment management market place, and an awareness of current industry trends and issues, with an understanding of the impact of wider economic events on this Sales channel.
- Knowledge of the U.S. Institutional Asset Management market is highly desirable.
- Ability to use/learn software programs including:
- FACTSET
- Advent (APX) software
- Zephyr Style Advisor and Allocation Advisor software
- Brio Intelligence
- Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel)
Personal:

- Sound understanding of the complexities of the sales process, with a passion for building the Brown Advisory brand.

ACCOUNT OPENING SPECIALIST
Brown Advisory, a rapidly growing investment management and trust company, is currently searching for a motivated individual to fill the position of Account Opening Specialist in our Fells Point office in Baltimore. To qualify candidates must possess the following skills:
- Knowledge of the financial industry
- Operations experience
- Experience with MS Word, Excel and Outlook
- Exceptional attention to detail
- Superior written and oral communication skills
- Highly organized
- Ability to work well independently
In addition to the above skills, interested applicants must conduct themselves in a highly professional manner. Prior experience with Metavante and Advent software is considered beneficial.
The primary duties of this position include but are not limited to:
- Set up accounts in the trust accounting system as well as the portfolio management system
- Communicate with the administrative and portfolio management teams to gather all required documentation and information
- Track and follow up on all outstanding information and documentation
- Review of first fees and statements to ensure accuracy
- Facilitate the closing of accounts including tracking final fees, distribution of assets and proper coding on the trust accounting and portfolio management systems
- Other duties as assigned

COMPLIANCE OFFICER
Brown Investment Advisory, a rapidly growing investment management and trust company, is currently seeking a Compliance Officer within our Fells Point office in Baltimore.
Summary of Job Responsibilities
The Compliance Officer will report directly to the Chief Compliance Officer and will be responsible for the monitoring, improvement and oversight of the firm’s compliance program. This role is also responsible for oversight of the firm’s anti-money laundering program. In addition, the duties of this position include but are not limited to:
- Daily oversight of broker-dealer compliance program
- Preparation of various regulatory reports
- Gathering information for Mutual Fund sub-advisor reports and inquires
- Assisting with the oversight of the Investment Advisor, Investment Company and Trust Company rules and policies
Job Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree required
- At least 4-6 years experience as a Compliance Officer in a financial services firm
- 4+ years broker-dealer or mutual fund compliance experience required
- Thorough knowledge of the broker-dealer regulatory environment including Series 7 and Series 24 licenses preferred
- Experience with FINRA and SEC regulatory filing systems
- Internal audit experience preferred
- Ability to work in a fast paced environment
- Superior written and oral communication skills
- Strong analytical and critical thinking skills
- Sound judgment and decision-making skills
