Fraudulent Activity in Kenya
Brown Advisory is aware of ongoing scams in Kenya in which individuals, WhatsApp groups, websites, or other communications are misusing Brown Advisory's name, branding, and the likenesses of Brown Advisory colleagues.
Please do not send funds, personal information, identity documents, account credentials, authentication codes, or other sensitive information to any individual or organization that you cannot independently verify.
Brown Advisory will never ask you to send funds or sensitive personal information through an unofficial WhatsApp group, social media account, website, or other unverified channel.

How to Protect Yourself
If you receive a communication claiming to be from Brown Advisory in Kenya, please take extra care before responding.
- Do not send money or make payments to any person, group, website, or account claiming to represent Brown Advisory in Kenya.
- Do not share personal information, identity documents, bank details, passwords, authentication codes, or other sensitive information.
- Be cautious of WhatsApp groups, social media accounts, websites, screenshots, or payment instructions using the Brown Advisory name or branding.
- Do not rely on logos, colleague names, profile photos, or branded materials as proof that a communication is legitimate.
- If you are unsure whether a communication is genuine, do not respond to it and do not click any links or download any attachments.
- Keep screenshots, phone numbers, website links, payment instructions, and other evidence so they can be reviewed or reported.
Report Evidence to Brown Advisory
If you have received communications, website links, phone numbers, WhatsApp group invitations, payment instructions, screenshots, or other materials using the Brown Advisory name or branding, you may report the evidence to Brown Advisory.
Our Information Security and Fraud Prevention teams review reports and may refer relevant information to our Brand Protection partner for investigation and, where appropriate, takedown action.
Please include any relevant screenshots, phone numbers, website links, social media profiles, WhatsApp group names, payment instructions, or other details that may help us review the matter.
For the purposes of reporting evidence, please provide only information to Brown Advisory that is reasonably necessary for us to investigate the suspected fraudulent activity. Where possible, avoid including unnecessary personal or sensitive information.

Kenya Reporting Resources
Affected individuals are encouraged to report suspected fraud to appropriate local law enforcement or regulatory authorities in Kenya.
- Directorate of Criminal Investigations — for reporting suspected criminal activity or fraud.
- National Police Service — for contacting Kenyan law enforcement.
- National KE-CIRT/CC — for reporting cyber incidents, suspicious websites, online abuse, or other cyber-related activity.
- Central Bank of Kenya Fraud Safety — for guidance if financial or banking details may be involved.
If you believe you have shared financial information, bank details, login credentials, identity documents, or other sensitive information with a fraudulent party, consider contacting your bank or financial institution immediately.
Suspicious WhatsApp Messages or Groups
Some scams may involve WhatsApp messages or groups that claim to be connected to Brown Advisory, Brown Advisory colleagues, or investment services in Kenya.
You may block and report suspicious WhatsApp senders directly in WhatsApp by opening the chat, selecting the contact name or number, and choosing “Report and Block.”
Before blocking or deleting a suspicious message or group, consider saving screenshots, phone numbers, links, payment instructions, or other evidence that may be useful for reporting.
You are also able to block and report the sender to WhatsApp via your app, as follows:
- Open the chat with that phone number, then tap the phone number or contact name.
- Scroll down to block the contact.
- Select Block or Report Contact.
- Choose Report and Block.
